BBIX Launches New IX Point “BBIX Sendai Center” in Tohoku Intelligent Communications Data Center

-Company establishes a new connection point in the Tohoku area to provide IX service-

BBIX, Inc. (“BBIX”) a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. that conducts an Internet eXchange (IX) business, will open “BBIX Sendai Center”(“Sendai Center”) in “Sendai Central Data Center” (Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture) of Tohoku Intelligent Telecommunication Co., Inc. (“TOHKnet”) to provide “IX Connect Service” from October 2020.

In addition to the continued rise of Internet usage in recent years, Internet traffic is seeing additional increases due to changes in social behavior patterns, such as working from home and remote classes. Increased traffic demand from content providers based in the Tokyo metropolitan and Kansai areas is becoming particularly apparent; and addressing this demand is a major issue for local Internet operators.

By establishing the Sendai Center in the Sendai Central Data Center of TOHKnet, which is known for its latest disaster countermeasures and highly reliable power source, content operators and Internet operators in the Tohoku area can not only enjoy stable BBIX services with ease; they can also meet demand above traffic volumes while realizing low latency and high quality internet connections.

In the nine years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, Tohoku has been making efforts toward recovery and reconstruction in various fields. Amid the challenges facing the region and the creation of a “new Tohoku” triggered by the reconstruction, BBIX will contribute to the sustainable vitality of Tohoku through the IX services provided by the Sendai Center.
