BBIX Launches New IX Point “BBIX Tokyo 10” at SCSK’s Data Center “netXDC Chiba Center”
Inaugurating new BBIX IX point in SCSK Corporation’s data center in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan
BBIX, Inc. (“BBIX”), a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. which conducts Internet exchange (IX) business today announced the launch of a new IX point “BBIX Tokyo 10” that will start operations from June 2019 The new IX point will be located in the SCSK Corporation’s data center “netXDC Chiba Center” in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture.
“BBIX Tokyo10” will provide IX Connect Service which enables seamless and stable data traffic exchange for major content p roviders and Internet service providers (ISPs) in and out of Japan. Customers who connect to “BBIX Tokyo 10 ” will be able to achieve direct connectivity with more than 190 other operators who connect to BBIX ’s other IX points in Tokyo and “BBIX Okinawa” as well as those who connect to BBIX Hong Kong and BBIX Singapore via Smart IX without having to worry about higher international backhaul costs. BBIX will provide cost effective and stable connectivity to the Internet to customers who need the broadband access to the Internet in Inzai area through the new IX point in “netXDC Chiba Center”.
“netXDC Chiba Center” is the suburban data center operated by SCSK Corporation. Inzai area is recognized as the preferable area for their data center site location from its geographical features. The area not just has a solid ground, but it also is located more than 20 km from the coast line which makes the area flood risk free. With these conditions, many companies such as financial institutions operate data centers in this area. In Tokyo, it is becoming very difficult to secure land for data centers, and new data centers are expected to be built in the suburban area near Tokyo. Given such situation, Inzai area is now attracting the attention in the industry among other cities.
The importance of direct peering between Internet companies is becoming increasingly important due to further popularization of cloud services, expansion of in house operation of corporate business networks, and utilization of higher speed access circuits BBIX aims to contribute to customers’ enhancement of interconnection quality and cost reduction by providing opportunities with efficient data traffic exchange through “BBIX Tokyo 10”.
